Dear Retriever Families;
I’d like to welcome all of our new families to JHE! We hope that you and your children have a wonderful experience at JHE. And, of course, welcome back to our returning Retrievers.
This is the first day that we are able to use our new mode of communication for emails/texts. I apologize if you have felt that you are a bit in the dark about the upcoming school year. Now that our new mass communication system and website have been rolled out, you will be getting more information you will need for the upcoming school year.
To kickoff the information feed I wanted to give you a few key events/dates to mark on your calendar:
Kindergarten Placement Assessment
When: Wednesday, July 28 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Joe Harris Elementary. Drop-in anytime!
Purpose: This is for all incoming Kindergarten students. The purpose of the assessment is to get a quick baseline of students' skills to help with the placement of students in classes. The information obtained helps us place students evenly in classes to maximize the learning experience for all students. If your child is unable to come in for an assessment on the 28th, please let us know and we will try to schedule an appointment for your child.
JHE Grand Opening and Open House
When: Thursday, August 5. Ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony with tours from 3 PM to 4:30 PM. Open House for families to meet teachers from 4:30 PM to 6 PM.
Purpose: This will be the first opportunity for the community at large to celebrate and see Rio Rancho’s newest elementary school. Families will have a chance to see the building and meet their child’s teacher. There will be JHE shirts for sale, food trucks, and lots of fanfare to help celebrate Joe Harris Elementary. More information is forthcoming.
First Day of School
The first day of school is Monday, August 9. Our school day is from 9 AM to 4 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesdays, our dismissal time is at 12:45. More information about the first day of school and how to prepare will be coming your way soon!
